Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last updated: November 4, 2026 · Applies to payments made on digichallan.in, operated by Trustbyte Technologies

1. What you pay for

Checking your challans on DigiChallan is free. You pay only when you choose to settle a challan, and the total is shown before you pay. It is made up of the challan amount to be settled (the full fine for Direct Pay, or the discounted amount for Smart Pay) and our platform fee. If you pay through PhonePe checkout, a gateway fee is added and shown before you confirm.

2. When you get a full refund

We refund everything you paid for a challan, including the platform fee, in these cases:

  • Smart Pay challan that can’t be settled. If your challan turns out to be ineligible for Lok Adalat, or the Lok Adalat doesn’t settle it, you can choose a full refund. Alternatively, you can pay the difference and have it cleared at the full amount instead.
  • We can’t complete the service. If we are unable to clear your challan because of an error on our part.
  • Failed, duplicate or excess payments. If money left your account but the payment did not complete, you paid twice for the same challan, or you paid more than the amount shown.

3. When a payment can’t be refunded

Once your payment is verified and we have paid the challan or your case has been taken up for settlement, the payment cannot be refunded, except in the cases above or where required under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020. A Lok Adalat settlement amount, once decided and paid, is final.

4. Cancelling

You can remove a challan from your account at any time before you pay for it, at no cost. To cancel a challan you have already paid for, contact us before it has been paid or taken up for settlement; if we have not yet acted on it, we refund it in full. You can check where each challan stands on its page in your account.

5. How and when refunds are paid

  • Approved refunds are processed within 7 working days.
  • Refunds go back to the account or UPI ID the payment came from. Your bank may take a few more days to show it.
  • We share the refund’s transaction reference with you once it is sent.

6. How to ask for a refund

Message us from the challan’s page in your account, or contact our Grievance Officer using the details on our Contact page or in section 11 of our Terms & Conditions. Please include your challan number and payment reference (UTR). We acknowledge requests within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days.

For how long each option takes, see our Service Delivery Policy.
